Statement of work

A document that lists the deliverables, responsibilities, timeline and conditions for a piece of work.

It should be precise enough that two people would agree whether a task is in or out of scope. Deliverables are written as things, such as a twelve page website, rather than activities. Exclusions are listed explicitly to prevent disputes.
